Ensuring a Smooth Ride for Amtrak's Payroll
Systems
The National Railroad Passenger Corporation, better known as Amtrak, is the nation's largest provider of contract-commuter
service for state and regional authorities. Approximately 25,000 Amtrak employees, working at more than 500 stations in 46 states,
enable the railroad to get 25 million passengers to their destinations every year.
Over the years, DataComm's functional and technical services have played an integral role in ensuring that Amtrak employees
are paid promptly and accurately.
DataComm first provided on-call, 24/7 technical and production support for Amtrak's Human Resources/Payroll operation when
it consisted of a GEAC HR Series E system and supporting programs. When Amtrak was looking for ways to better integrate its business
processes, it turned to DataComm once again to help migrate the legacy systems to an SAP ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) platform.
For the migration project, DataComm provided a functional team consisting of FI/CO, Payroll, Time Management and
Compensation Management consultants, as well as BASIS Administration & Security experts.

The DataComm technical team, including HR ABAP programmers, assisted with
system implementation, configuration, application tuning, performance issues and the establishment of programming standards.
Our time-tested ability to deliver dependable service, high quality and effective results for Amtrak is just one of many
examples of the long-term customer partnerships that have become a hallmark of DataComm.
