DaimlerChrysler Chooses DataComm—
24/7, Year-After-Year

More than 15 years ago, DataComm began a successful, ongoing relationship with DaimlerChrysler that has enabled us to play an integral role in key Information Technology initiatives for one of the world's largest automakers.

Passing the Initial Test with Successful Outsourcing

As the technical backbone of DaimlerChrysler, the Information Technology Management (ITM) group is responsible for developing systems, services and support for the company's internal and external customers. In 1989, when ITM needed to support its GEAC AR legacy financial systems without consuming valuable staff resources, DaimlerChrysler broke with tradition and chose DataComm as one of its first ever outsourcing partners.

Working off-site at DataComm's Troy, MI headquarters, a team with extensive experience in programming, maintaining, upgrading and customizing GEAC Financial software took on 24/7 operational responsibility for the system. As a result, DaimlerChrysler was able to save more than $100,000 in manpower utilization in the first year, with additional savings in subsequent years.

"DataComm saved us a tremendous amount of money," says Ralph Benman, director of Finance Systems for Chrysler Corporation. “We were able to cut our staff virtually from six down to one and reassign those individuals to other critical projects.”

DataComm also assisted the ITM group with support for its Warranty Claims systems and software development for the Dealer Warranty Information Network (DWIN) database.

IT Consulting for DaimlerChrysler Services

DaimlerChrysler Services North America (DCS), formerly Chrysler Financial Corporation, provides financing and insurance to automotive and commercial vehicle dealers and their retail consumers in the United States, Canada and Mexico. DCS depends on IT to support its six business units and the more than 5,500 professionals who manage almost 4.8 million contracts worth over US $85 billion.

When DCS began implementing SAP Financials, DataComm supplied EBP (Enterprise Buyer Professional) and SAP consultants to implement Business Connector and add Strategic Enterprise Management, BASIS Administration & Security and ABAP Development functionality.

DataComm also assists DCS with large-scale integration projects involving its C-Wholesale, Truck Wholesale and Mexico Wholesale systems.

A Trusted Partnership Continues

Today, DataComm remains the vendor of choice for reliable, 24/7 support for many of DaimlerChrysler's business-critical systems. In addition, DaimlerChrysler has recognized DataComm consultants over the years for their “outstanding commitment,” “mastery of new technical environments,” “flawless implementation” and “flexibility in meeting changing customer requirements.”
