Project Overview:
Beginning in 1989, DataComm was the first vendor to be added to the Chrysler Fixed Price Blanket. DataComm also provided ITM consultants to DaimlerChrysler on a time and materials basis. DataComm assumed 24/7 support of the Chrysler GEAC General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, and the Fixed Assets systems with three DataComm consultants.

Key Actions:

  • During the next 2 years DataComm/Chrysler migrated their other 2 Accounts Receivable systems to the GEAC AR system

Project Overview:
Owens-Illinois is one of the world's leading producers of glass and plastics packaging products with more than 140 locations around the world. DataComm assumed the support of the O/I Human Resource systems on a 24X7 basis. The scope of the project covered domestic payroll comprising O/I's operations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. O/I operates more than 70 plants and processes payroll for 43,500 employees of whom 15,000 are hourly (paid weekly), and 3,500 are salaried (paid twice a month). They also process payroll for 25,000 retirees (both hourly and salaried), and these are paid monthly.

Key Issues:

  • The environment initially was GEAC with a combination of mainframe and client/server platform.
  • O/I decided to make the transition to SAP.
  • O/I transitiioned to ADP.

Key Actions and Results:

  • DataComm had O/I's entire team trained for the transition.
  • DatComm was instrumental in helping ADP make the transition seamlessly.
  • DataComm has responsibility for the support and maintenance of the Time and Attendance system
  • DataComm supports maintenance of all the card readers at all the plants.
  • DataComm has been able to reduce O/I's IT costs significantly.

Amtrak serves more than 500 stations in 45 states. Amtrak operates over 22,000 route miles. It owns 730 route miles, which is approximately 3% of the total miles on a nationwide basis. Today, Amtrak has more than 25,000 employees.

Key Issues:

  • DataComm maintains Amtrak's Human Resource and Payroll systems on a 24X7 basis.
  • DataComm provided Amtrak SAP migration support.

Key Actions:

  • DataComm assumed responsibility for the Y2K upgrade of Square D's Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, and the Project Tracking systems.
  • All software upgrades were performed from DataComm's Austin, Texas data center.
  • DataComm established communication lines from the Austin data center into Square D in Palatine.

Key Results:

  • All systems were converted to Y2K compliance, tested and implemented on-time and within budget.
  • DataComm was able to reduce Square D's cost significantly and prevent the possibility of potential Y2K non-compliance.
